Criteria, grades and the moderation in between

MYP criterion levels convert to a 1–7 grade by IB rules, never by a stored number that can drift. Standardisation sessions compare independent judgements before grades are published, so a criterion being read two different ways is caught while it can still be fixed.

Why it matters

A grade derived from criterion levels cannot silently disagree with the levels it came from.
Moderation is a workflow, not a meeting nobody records: judgements, variance and the agreed position are all kept.
Rubrics exist for PYP, DP and CP too — with descriptors rather than marks for PYP, because the programme is assessed against descriptors.
Report cards pull from the same graph as the grades, so a published card and the gradebook cannot tell different stories.
